Robin F Williams (1984) is a New York based artist whose paintings address childhood, nostalgia, American cultural identity, and the struggle for meaning inherent in young adulthood. Informed by Rockwell and Social Realist painters of the 1930’s, a distinctly American context defines the work. The added influence of seventeenth century European portraiture implies the subjugating weight of a long-standing empire. There is a heaviness to the figures’ costumes and to the antiquated tasks they mindlessly carry out. Often they appear to be waiting for rescue.
