Graeme Patterson (1980) lives and works in Sackville (Canada). He studied at Dundas Valley School of Art (Ontario), the University of Saskatchewan, and the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design (BFA 2002). His multi-disciplinary installations and animations have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions across North America and his work is held in private and public art collections, including the National Gallery of Canada. He was the 2009 Sobey Award Finalist for the Atlantic Region.
My intention as an artist is to attempt to bring the viewer in to the world of play I exist in while creating miniature worlds based on personal memories and experiences. My work stems from a self taught method of producing stop-motion animations but has expanded into building large sculptural installations. These installations consist of animation, sculptural models, robotics, sound, music and some interactive elements. I find my inspiration comes from a desire to constantly develop an alternate reality that stimulates reflective engagement with universal themes of longing, loss and recovery. --Graeme Patterson
Grudge Match (2008) encompasses a multi-faceted sculptural installation and a stop-motion animated film, linking an autobiographical reminiscence of his long lost childhood friend with an imaginary freestyle wrestling match between the friends.
