Tipping point

Josephine Starrs & Leon Cmielewski live in Sydney. They are artists whose long-term collaboration has produced a variety of screen-based installations. Their work often uses play as a strategy for engaging with the social and political contradictions inherent in contemporary life.

Tipping Point (2009) A degraded riverbed landscape edited with footage of a cane toad. The piece illustrates the well-known fable of the boiling frog. If a frog is put directly into hot water it will jump out immediately, whereas if the frog is placed in cold water that is heated gradually, the frog won't be aware of what is happening and boil to death. There is a clear parallel to our current situation with human beings and global warming. SOUNDTRACK Panos Couros
